Andras Schiff to enter honorary committee of the Musical Olympus festival

In March 2014, pianist András Schiff entered the Honorary Committee of the Musical Olympus Foundation.

The members of the Honorary Committee are renowed musicians who share the Festival’s mission – to support young musicians at the beginning of their career, the main selection criteria being young artists’ expertise and talent.  Among the members are Matthias Bamert, Eliso Virsaladze, Daniel Barenboim, Placido Domingo, Montserrat Caballé, Zubin Mehta, Paloma O'Shea, Yuri Temirkanov, Dmitry Hvorostovsky, Mariss Jansons, Yo-Yo Ma.

Irina Nikitina, President of the Musical Olympus Foundation: “It is a great privilege for us that András Schiff, one of the most talented pianists of modern time, inspiring and striking,  is now on the Festival’s Honorary Committe. Andras has experienced many competitions at the beginning of his career and understands that our participants need support”.

At the invitation of the Musical Olympus Foundation, over the last years András Schiff has regularly visited Russia with concerts. He likes to perform in Russia. This year the maestro will give concerts in Moscow and St Petersburg on May, 19 and 21 within his anniversary international tour. His concerts will symbolically precede the Musical Olympus Festival that will take place in St Petersburg  on May, 22 – June, 1.

The famous pianist will also for the first time hold an open workshop in Russia for young musicians – students of St Petersburg conservatory.
