A Classic of a Genre (2011)

Andras Shiff is one of the most outstanding pianists of his generation, with stricking musicalty and a virtuoso performing technique. Shiff has a substantial discography and two Grammy awards to his credit for “Best Soloist in the Classic Genre” for Bach’s English Suites (1989) and “Best Vocal Recording”

for Shubert’s Schwanengesang. Irina Nikitina President of “Musical Olympus” Foundation, which invited the pianist to Russia, had this to say about their choice “Schiff is one of the great musicians of the day – a modest man with a huge talent who can be compared with Scriabin and Sofronitsky”. On 28 September at the Philharmonic Great Hall Schiff will play Beethoven’s Sonata №30, Bartok’s Sonata, Janasek’s Sonata “From the Street” and Schubert’s Sonata №18, P.70.
