On May, 23 and 25 the State Academic Cappella hosted the second and third concerts of the Musical Olympus Festival.

The concert on May, 23 started with a pleasant celebration. President of the Musical Olympus Foundation Irina Nikitina presented the Brazilian conductor Tobias Volkmann, chosen the audience favourite at the last year’s Festival, the long-awaited Audience Award – a silver Easter egg handcrafted by the famous jeweler Vladimir Mikhailov.

Lyrical violinist from Canada Nikki Chooi opened the evening with the concerto No. 1 by M. Bruch. Then the audience witnessed a world premiere: Samuele Telari, 1 prize winner of the International Young Musicians Competition Prize "Antonio Salieri" (Italy, 2013), performed concerto for accordion and orchestra by Italian composer Enrico Blatti for the first time. The second part of the concert started with the Overture to "Le Nozze di Figaro" by W.A. Mozart. And after that young French pianist Rémi Genietwon the hearts of listeners with his emotional interpretation of Tchaikovsky’s concerto No. 1.

On May, 25 Risto Joost, chief conductor of the Tallinn Chamber Orchestra, appeared at the conductor’s podium. The concert programme wasb road-ranging. Matvey Sherling, Russian saxophone player and one of the youngest Festival participants, played the lead part in Glazunov’s concerto. Mozart's clarinet concerto followed, performed by Blaz Sparovec, Slovenia’s entrant for Eurovision 2012.

In the second part of the concert Sophie Dartigalongue (France) presented to the audience G. Rossini’s bassoon concerto. The concert programme concluded with Aria of Elisabeth from ‘Tannhauser’ (R. Wagner) and Cavatina of Leonora from ‘Il Trovatore’ (G. Verdi) brilliantly performed by Seyoung Park (Republic of Korea).

On May 22, the XIX International Musical Olympus Festival opened in St Petersburg. The first concert of the Festival took place at the Concert Hall of the Mariinsky Theatre.

The Mariinsky Theatre Symphony Orchestra under the baton of Sergey Smbatyan (Armenia) performed the symbolic ouverture “Vivat, Olympus!” written by composer Andrey Petrov specially for the opening of the first Musical Olympus Festival.

Marc Bouchkov from Belgium, 1 prize winner of the Montreal International Musical Competition (Canada), gave a brilliant interpretation of the violin concerto by Jean Sibelius. Soprano Hrachuhi Bassenz, prize winner of the International Competition for Verdian Voices (Busseto, Italy), and Yuri Vlasov, prize winner at the Elena Obraztsova International Young Opera Singers' Competition, presented to the audience classical arias from the world operas.

The opening concert of the International Musical Olympus Festival will take place on May, 22 at 19:00 at the Mariinsky Theatre Concert Hall. The Mariinsky Theatre Orchestra under the baton of Sergey Smbatyan (Armenia) will play the symbolic ouverture “Vivat, Olympus!” written by composer Andrey Petrov specially for the opening of the first Musical Olympus Festival. After that Marc Bouchkov, 1 prize winner, Montreal International Musical Competition (2013), will perform violin concerto by Jean Sibelius.

The second part of the concert will start with G. Verdi’s works: first the audience will listen to the overture to the opera ‘La forza del destino' (The Power of Fate), and then the principal performer of the Nuremberg State TheatreHrachuhi Bassenzwill sing arias from operas ‘La Traviata’, ‘Ernani’, and ‘Il Corsaro’.

Первый концерт международного фестиваля «Музыкальный Олимп» состоится 22 мая в 19.00 в Концертном зале Мариинского театра. Под управлением дирижера из Армении Сергея Смбатяна Симфонический оркестр Мариинского театра исполнит знаковую увертюру «Виват, Олимп!», написанную композитором Андреем Петровым специально к открытию первого фестиваля «Музыкальный Олимп».
